The partnership is part of Maimonides’ Healing Arts Program. “We are thrilled to be sponsored by the National Arts Program for our first annual employee and family art showcase,” said Deborah Douek, Manager of Team Lavender Peer Support/Healing Arts for Maimonides Medical Center. “This exhibit will provide employees and family members an opportunity to share their creative side and foster a sense of community, engagement, and mastery.”
The NAP has ensured that hospital employees and their families have access to opportunities that showcase their creativity for over 30 years. Annually, the national nonprofit partners with more than 90 venues in over 30 states to create workplace exhibitions where artistic expressions are recognized, validated, and appreciated.
A recent study found that embracing a creative arts therapy program alleviated burnout among healthcare professionals, and also supported healing and resiliency through building a sense of community. Results of the research showed an increase in resilience among providers who participated in a creative arts therapy program. With CDC reporting that 46% of health workers said they felt burned out often or very often in 2022 (compared to 32% in 2018), this initiative couldn’t come at a better time. Maimonides is committed to using the benefits of art to support our workforce so they can best support their patients and the Brooklyn community.
