About Me

Dr. Chao is a fellowship-trained MIS/bariatric surgeon who has been in practice since 2006. She was born in the beautiful scenic city of Hangzhou, China and after completing one year of high school, she immigrated to the US with her family. She claims Brooklyn as her second home since it was her first stop after arriving in the states and has since remained her home ever since.
Dr. Chao completed her undergraduate degree at Bryn Mawr College majoring in mathematics with a focus in pre-med and then attended SUNY Downstate to continue her medical education. In the OR of Kings County Hospital where Dr. Chao was first introduced to surgery. The combination of her love for the efficacy of surgical cure and passion for precision as a prior mathematician is what led to her becoming the surgeon she is today, concentrating in robotic-assisted laparoscopic approaches to cure surgical diseases leading to less pain and faster recovery for patients. What could be better than doing what she loves - rendering the best and most advanced surgical care for her patients
In 2021, Dr. Chao founded a surgical office in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, providing general surgical care for the underserved Chinese immigrant population – a much-needed service. Today, she opens her office door to all that need her care - acute or chronic, urgent or elective, young or old - using all surgical modalities – traditional open, laparoscopic, and robotic.
