Dr. Justin Rice is Chief of Palliative Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he oversees palliative care services across Maimonides Medical Center, Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital, and Maimonides Cancer Center. He provides inpatient palliative care consultations and is dedicated to helping patients and families navigate serious illness with compassionate, expert care.
Dr. Rice earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Notre Dame and master’s degrees in biomedical sciences and public health from Tufts University. He received his medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed a combined internal medicine–pediatrics residency, followed by a chief residency, at the University of Southern California.
After working as a combined medicine-pediatrics hospitalist, Dr. Rice completed a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He previously served as an inpatient consultant and Director of Outpatient Palliative Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst before joining Maimonides in his current role.
Dr. Rice is board-certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, and hospice and palliative medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics and serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University.
