Ronald Simon, M.D. is currently the Chief of the newly formed Division of Acute Care Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center. This new division, within General Surgery, incorporates Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Prior to coming to Maimonides, Dr. Simon was the Chief of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care, and Vice-Chairman, and Residency Program Director at Lincoln Medical Center in the South Bronx. He has previously been the Chief of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at Bellevue Hospital Center and Jacobi Medical Center. Dr. Simon graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and did his General Surgery training at Montefiore Medical Center. He completed a Trauma/Critical Care Fellowship at Maryland's famous "Shock Trauma" Center in Baltimore. He has held the title of Professor of Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the NYU School of Medicine. Currently, Dr. Simon is an active member of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and is the past Chairman of the NYC Regional Trauma Advisory Committee. He chairs the Systems Committee for the NY State Trauma Advisory Committee. Dr. Simon has published over 75 peer-reviewed articles, review articles and book chapters. His educational merits include: National ATLS faculty and course instructor for the Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) and Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET) courses. His current goal is to prepare Maimonides Medical Center to become an American College of Surgeons verified Level 1 Adult and Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center. Maimonides will then be the only Pediatric Trauma Center serving the 2.5 million people of Brooklyn including 600,000 children.
