About Me

Dr. Joshua Kerstein has been an attending physician at Maimonides Medical Center in the Department of Cardiology since 1995. Born in Paterson, New Jersey and raised in New York, he graduated Summa-Cum-Laude from Brooklyn College with a BS degree in computer science and earned his medical degree at Health Science Center of Brooklyn SUNY Downstate Medical Center. He joined Maimonides Medical Center in 1989 where he completed his three year internal medicine residency, and was also awarded medical resident of the year in 1990. He continued his cardiology training at Maimonides and completed his three-year fellowship in 1995. He is licensed in Nuclear Cardiology. In 1995, Dr. Joshua Kerstein joined the full-time cardiology practice at Maimonides Medical Center and shortly thereafter became the Director of the Cardiology Step Down Unit as well as Associate Director of Clinical Cardiology. He continues to participate in daily teaching rounds/director rounds. He is actively involved in numerous ongoing research activities, as well as numerous publications in peer review journals. Most recently, Dr. Kerstein has published in the Journal Chest an exciting study using IV Amiodarone for the prevention of atrial fibrillation post CABG done at Maimonides Medical Center and is currently the principal investigator of an ongoing multicenter study using RANOLAZINE a new anti-ischemic drug in the treatment of acute coronary syndromes. He is an active participant in the clinical cardiology service/consultation rounds and has vast experience in Echocardiography, TEE, Stress testing, and is licensed in Nuclear Cardiology. Professional Society Memberships include the American Medical Association, American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians and the Institute Nuclear Medical Education
