Brooklyn, NY — Maimonides Health is delighted to announce the birth of Brooklyn’s first baby of 2025. Malia Carrasquillo, weighing eight pounds, nine ounces and measuring 21 inches long, was born at 3:54 am on January 1, 2025, at Maimonides Medical Center.
The healthy baby girl was born to proud parents Marie Aserat and Mark Carrasquillo of Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
“Malia is full of surprises. Her original due date was Christmas. We have been joking that she only gets one present. I think she heard us, ” said Malia’s mom, Marie Aserat. “To be an entire week late and then the first baby born on another holiday, marking a whole new year — you make plans and God laughs.”
Both mother and baby are doing well under the care of Dr June Ng and the expert labor and delivery team at Maimonides.
“Welcoming Brooklyn’s first baby of the year is always a special moment for our entire team,” said Dr. Janet Stein, Director of Obstetrics at Maimonides Health. “It’s a wonderful way to begin 2025, and we’re honored to be part of this family’s celebration.”

The family received a special New Year’s gift basket from Maimonides Health, containing diapers, toys, burpies, onesies, and a wine glass for the new year.
