At Maimonides Medical Center, you will join a team of dedicated professionals engaged in the rewarding work of providing compassionate care to a diverse population. Maimonides Health is expanding our approach to mental and behavioral health and is seeking an experienced full time Chief Social Worker to lead our team. You will have the opportunity to provide leadership and ongoing supervision to Social Work discipline staff and students, Inpatient Unit Social Workers, Senior Social Workers, Social Worker Assistant, and Utilization Management Team. You will also provide direct services, including assessment and treatment and provide assistance with discharge planning on clinically complicated cases.
In this role, you will:
• Provide ongoing clinical supervision and training opportunities for unit staff to ensure the provision of appropriate patient services and required skills required
• Be responsible for administrative functions of the Utilization Management and Inpatient Social Work services, ensuring that service operations are in compliance with standards.
• Provide direct treatment services to patients utilizing modalities (individual, group, family, crisis intervention) which appropriately address the needs and treatment goals of patients.
• Perform psychodynamic assessments, and formulate diagnostic impressions and recommendations for treatment.
• Provide case management services for assigned caseload to ensure treatment plan is being followed & assist patients in accessing health, mental health, supportive & concrete services.
• Select, hire and supervise program staff, initiate disciplinary action. carry out annual performance appraisal of employees, recommending promotions, etc.
• Orient and train new employees in departmental operations
• Develop discharge care plans (suggests appropriate community resources) and actively participate in effecting the plans.
• Participate in interdisciplinary diagnostic and treatment planning conferences and make recommendations regarding the needs of the patient.
• Provide consultative services to Department of Psychiatry, Medical Center and school and other agency staff regarding appropriate interventions for the patient population.
• Lead the planning process for developing/implementing the Social Work Student Program to ensure an enriched program and clinical experience is provided for Masters level Social Work students.
• Plan, develop & organize inpatient psychiatry social work services
• Ensure staff coordinate with registration and finance to obtain payment for hospital stays
• Ensure mandated in-service training by providing conferences, workshops and other developmental activities to maintain licensure and remain professionally current
To qualify as a Chief Social Worker, we require:
• Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work.
• Certified as a Certified Social Worker (CSW) for Social Work roles.
• Minimum of 8 years post-Master’s degree in a psychiatric setting with emphasis on the serious and persistent mentally ill.
• Minimum of 5 years as a clinical supervisor.
• Minimum of 5 years as an administrative supervisor.
• Knowledge of behavioral and/or psychodynamic approached to treatment and assessment.
• Knowledge of utilization management and working with managed care companies
• Psychodiagnostic assessment and diagnostic formulation skills.
• Treatment skills in individual, group, family and crisis intervention service.
• Good verbal/written and communication skills.
