My mom and grandparents immigrated to Brooklyn from Kiev, Ukraine, as refugees in 1989. I grew up here, and spent my formative years and after college and medical school away from the city. I was lucky to return to Brooklyn for my medical residency training, where I met my wife (also from Brooklyn) at the hospital where we both worked. It means a lot for me to be able to provide care and take care of the people of Brooklyn working as a geriatrician at Maimonides. Things have come full circle. Everyday I think of my grandparents and my mom and all their sacrifices for me. I hope to make them proud by serving the community that made me who I am today.
