Steven G. Pavlakis, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained Pediatric Neurologist. He specializes in the neurologic care of infants, children and adolescents. His clinical focus is in general pediatric neurology, stroke care and neurogenetic disorders. He provides nonsurgical services for a broad range of conditions including seizures, headaches, developmental disorders and rare diseases. Dr. Pavlakis previously served as Director of the Center for Brain Behavior at the Maimonides Children's Hospital, and Chief Science Officer at Maimonides Medical Center. In 2018, he was appointed visiting Professor of Neurology at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, and Director of Pediatric Neurology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center and its associated institutions. Dr. Pavlakis has collaborated with other experts across the country and internationally to establish multi-specialty programs focused on stroke and clinical trials. Dr. Pavlakis' research interests include pediatric genetic and mitochondrial diseases, and cerebral vascular disease. Dr. Pavlakis has received numerous research grants from the National Institutes of Health, and actively contributes to medical journals. He is published in over 100 peer-reviewed publications and sits on the Editorial Board of Pediatric Neurology. He also publishes a monthly column in Pediatric Neurology on topics related to the field.
